Matar Paneer is an Indian cuisine served as Main course with a variety of Indian flat bread. The main ingredient used in this recipe is Cottage cheese and green peas. My recipe is really easy and will keep the Paneer( cottage cheese ) soft and juicy.
100 grams Paneer (cottage cheese) cut in 1/2 inch pieces
1/3rd cup green peas
1-2 table spoon of oil
Cumin seeds 1/2 tea spoon
1/2 cup onions roughly chopped
1 cup roughly chopped tomatoes
1 table spoon ginger and garlic paste
1 tea spoon green chillies chopped
1/4th tea spoon turmeric powder
1 tea spoon red chilly powder
1 tea spoon coriander powder
1/2 tea spoon garam masala powder
salt to taste
These 2 ingredients are optional but will give a richer taste:
Cream: 1 table spoon
Cashew nuts paste :1 table spoon
In a Kadhai ( Nonstick deep cooking pot ) heat the oil and then add the cumin seeds once the seeds starts to crackle add chopped onions stir it on a lower flame till it turns golden brown now add tomatoes, chillies, ginger garlic paste and all the dry masala and cook it till the tomatoes are soft and the oil starts leaving the sides.
Now grind this mixture and make a thick paste transfer the same in the Kadhai and add about 3/4 cup of water and green peas. Add salt and let the green peas cook completely over low flame.
Add Paneer, cream and cashew nut paste and close the lid let it cook for 5 to 10 minutes on low flame.
Garnish it with some chopped coriander and serve hot with Rotis.
If not using Cream and cashew nuts paste then reduce the amount of red chilly powder.
Don’t cook the Paneer for longer then 10 minutes as it will become very chewy.
