Green peas Upma

Upma is a South Indian breakfast dish, cooked from Dry roasted Semolina. It is made with various seasonings and vegetables, depending on individual preference. Its a good tiffin meal for kids. It is also cooked sweet and served as a dessert.

Semolina is also known as rawa or suji. Today I will show you how to make this recipe for 2 servings with green peas.

Ingredients we will need are as follow:

1/2 cup of semolina (Rawa/Suji)

1/4th cup green peas.

1 tea spoon of clarified butter ( Ghee)

1/2 table spoon oil

1/2 tea spoon mustard seeds (rai)

1/2 tea spoon white lentil (urad dal white)

1 tea spoon chopped chillies

2-3 curry leaves

1 table spoon onions finely chopped

2 cpus water

Dry Masala

1/4th tea spoon red chilly powder

1/4th tea spoon of coriander powder

A pinch of turmeric powder

a pinch of garam masala powder

Salt to taste

Garnishing:

Chopped coriander leaves

Method:

Dry roast the semolina with 1 tea spoon ghee till it turns golden brown and keep aside.

In a deep pan (kadhai) heat 1 table spoon oil.

Add mustard seeds and white lentil (Urad Dal), then add onion, chilies and curry leaves, once the onion turns golden brown add green peas and all the dry masala let it cook for a minute.

Add 2 cups of water and let the water boil.

Once the water starts to boil add semolina and keep stirring till the water is absorbed completely by the semolina.

Garnish with some coriander leaves and serve Hot.

Note:

Cook on low flame only.

Turmeric is optional to give the colour.

Can add any of your favorite vegetables.
